TOUCH MY BELLY

These pages are a mixture of old new and experimentation a bit of a scratch pad if you like,
Some done in the days before "Make your own page Wizards" and entered by hand in a text editor,
given time I am slowly bringing them up to date and inserting new tricks and techniques as I learn more
. .
Click here to see what I mean. Since making some of these I have also created and maintain sites for several companies / individuals and welcome inquiries for work of this type.

WIGGETT CONSTRUCTION is an example of a site I have built. And by the way I also handle all the companies contract cleaning needs.
A very different example is a page I made for a local Karaoke Disco run by
CHRIS JAY   who I think has now moved up a few notches

My Wife's sewing and craft page

By day together with my wife we run our own contract cleaning business all the paperwork for this is presently handled by an ATARI FALCON in our spare bedroom /office for this sort of work it is actually faster than a PC of ten times its speed as the programs are well written, a lot smaller and far more efficient than their PC counterparts.

My main interests are Atari computers of which I have a small collection 14!! including a prized STacy, which is a very early laptop computer the battery life was only about 15 mins per charge, but at the time there was nothing else like it.
EMULATION of these systems  plus   music  and Karaoke midi files. Which I adjust slightly for screen display and sometimes remix or change the instruments to sound more like a live band than just a backing track.

I can then use them in my second job as a semi pro musician come karaoke night, I use a general music wx2 keyboard which has a video interface to display song lyrics, I was in bands for many years but have been solo for about fifteen years now one of the best moves I have ever made, I do the songs I want and have no one to argue with I found bands were always conflicting about something, and if it wasn't the players it was the wives and girlfriends.

,I have been into midi from the outset and owned one of the first affordable midi keyboards a Korg poly 800, this and my beloved Ataris plus several sequencers and keyboards gave me a solid grounding in midi protocol

No one else on earth makes a device like this
yet it seems to be a secret.

If you use a Keyboard that has a floppy but no Hard Drive check out this site THE MEGAFLOPPY™, this fantastic device or the PCB version will retrofit almost anything that uses a floppy and give you massive storage via "virtual" disks. It takes the place of your existing floppy drive and is connected to a tiny laptop IDE hard drive that all goes inside your keyboard, it also has a SCSI interface if required, the kit version will let you mount the small led and button control wherever you wish. All your keyboard functions remain the same but with the ability to read and write to the attached hard drive. it also has it's own functions to copy the virtual disks to other locations and copy directly from the floppy to a virtual disk location It is so good I have bought two. One for my keyboard and another for the module version that I also have. Before buying this I was carrying and using 300 floppys on gigs that required my midi karaoke show. If you contact the makers please tell them you found the info on my site I have no connection with them apart from trying to spread the word as I have never seen anything like it in a shop and only found out about it by accident.

sadly this device is now out of production but who knows  if the small company get enough enquiries it might be worth their while to do another run, or sell the details to someone who will

My music is prepared with a mixture of the Atari STE with Notator SL, the PC with assorted programs and the built in sequencer in my keyboard in an attic  room that is my den.

My ATARI was mainly used for internet but the speed and compatibility of the PC can't be matched by this wonderful machine, it is now used to do all the things I have not yet learned to do on the PC and also serves as a good backup when the PC goes haywire which it has done several times in the short time I have owned it. The machine was bought at PC world in the UK and I would advise anyone not to make any major purchases with them .after spending thousands of pounds I found the after sales service rubbish and even had to threaten a small claims court action to get repairs carried out.

Download a simple Karaoke player here KARATOS.ZIP FOR ATARI COMPUTERS ONLY this can be used for playing .MID or .KAR files if you have a sound module or keyboard linked up. .

Another good source of Karaoke files is the Newsgroup ALT.BINARIES.KARAOKE

Forget the image of Ataris as a games machine, I HAVE NEVER EVEN PLAYED ONE!! The most famous music sequencer in the world" CUBASE " was first written for Ataris, and is still in use in many studios today.

It was capable of running from a floppy disk on a one megabyte machine, yes "Megabyte!!". Atari computers were way ahead of there time and the slogan was "THE POWER WITHOUT THE PRICE" the inclusion of the midi ports was a design masterstroke and has ensured the continuing use of these amazing little gray boxes, as far as I know no computer since has been built with midi as standard.

I have now added a laptop PC to My collection of computers and with the aid of a very clever program called magic PC I can run most of the ATARI software I am used to as I have far too many documents / databases / spreadsheets to convert to a different format at this time .after so many years of being well served by my Ataris I can't help feeling like a bit of a traitor, I find the windows 98 operating system appalling to say the amount of time and money that must have been spent on it. To someone like me who has used a different platform with a replacement operating system that was made as a result of users telling the author what they needed the jump to a "force fed" system that is basically illogical was a shock.

The music game has it's temptations and alcohol is one, I slipped into a bad heavy whisky drinking habit for several years but now just enjoy a few beers, my interest in computers both hardware and software has played a major part in my recovery, once a hundred a day smoker I gave that up overnight when a friend two years younger dropped dead!!
